When we got to Ethiopia we had a little extra drama with paperwork. It goes a little like this. Our home study had us approved for 2 kids 0-24 months. This should have been all great except for one minor detail. When Fikus paperwork was submitted for his birth certificate and passport, they had his DOB as 8-8-07. Well, this makes him 27 months which was not good for us. We were so confused since all his medicals and paperwork from referral said he was about 18 months (in July) and so we projected his birth date to be about the middle of Jan. So, we raced around trying to get everything ready for Embassy on Thursday. It was pretty much one of the nightmares of the trip. You also know what that meant for travel home. Yes, we had to pay ANOTHER $1400 to buy the boy (who sat on my lap) a plane ticket. We were very frustrated yet all we could think was, just get us out of here with the kids! Fikru especially really is a mystery as to how old he is. We will watch him over the next 6 months and then see what the dr thinks. Based on the stories told by the nanny who knew his mother, she says he is even older.
Now Dawit is another funny DOB. This picture above is from his first bath around the middle of July. From the stories I am told that are actually factual, we KNOW he was born the first week of July sometime. His birth certificate says he was born 8-1-09. Ok so these pictures must be another baby. :-) Obviously there is little attention to detail. Only God really know when they were sent to this earth. Sweet boys.
